T.J. West III is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of English and editor of Metathesis 2016-2017. His dissertation, tentatively titled History’s Perilous Pleasures: Experiencing Antiquity in Post-War Hollywood Film, explores the historico-biblical epic and the ways in which it attempts to mitigate the terrifying nature of modern history through an appeal to the ancient world. He teaches courses on film, popular culture, race, and gender, and in his free time enjoys watching The Golden Girls and nerding out over the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and their various adaptations.
